  • Number of participants limited / small size class
Seminar goals

The intention of power electronics in electromobility or power electronics in general is the transformation of electrical energy with the help of switching elements (MOSFETs, IGBTs…). Therefore power electronics is becoming increasingly important due to electromobility and the use of renewable energies. In the first section of the course, the focus is on the energy storage devices, switching elements and basic circuits used in power electronics, so that the participant will be able to analyze complex circuits and infer their function. This ability is trained using practical examples from electromobility. The special challenges in the automobile are also presented. Finally, current trends and new technologies are highlighted.

Target group

The seminar is intended for employees, professionals, developers as well as project managers and executive managers. It provides the audience with an overview of the terms used in power electronics and highlights which facts and circuits are hidden behind the terms. Number of participants limited / small class.

Content

– DC/AC, energy storage, switching elements in power electronics
– Rectifier (passive, active)
– Inverter
– Galvanically connected converters (buck, boost, cuk, zeta, SEPIC, charge pump)
– Galvanically isolated converters (flyback, flux converters in various forms)
– Converters in battery-electric-vehicle and fuel-cell-electric-Vehicle
– Practical example: High voltage power system for a battery electric vehicle (BEV, PHEV)
– Practical example: Further development for a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV, FC-HEV, FC-PHEV).
– Challenges (EMC, switching loss, etc.)
– New / alternative technologies (SiC, resonant converters, etc.)

13:00 – 13:45 Energy storage and switching elements in power electronics
13:45 – 14:45 Rectifier and inverter
14:45 – 16:15 Converters and their application in electric vehicles (incl. practical example)
16:15 – 17:00 Challenges in power electronics and new technologies

Referent

The referent worked for over 10 years in electronics development at Robert Bosch GmbH, most recently as team leader. During this time, he developed both power electronics for the high-voltage systems of fuel cell vehicles and circuits for the low-voltage system, such as low-noise DC/DC converters for radar sensors. Afterwards he moved to Daimler AG for several years. Currently, he works as power electronic expert for Marquardt GmbH in Rietheim-Weilheim, Germany.
